Review: Don 2 has no edge-of-the-seat moments

His new film Don 2 director Farhan Akhtar takes its time introducing us to your lead, played by Shahrukh Khan. We get a whiff of Khan, light feeling in the presence of a weak hand-held camera shots and close. There we see His hand of his unshaven face, his dark glasses. As he moves up winding rivers of Thailand, we notice that Khan's rather odd looking long hair (a wig, of course) with dreadlocks. And there's cigarette smoke rolling around his face in slow motion. It's all very sexy and so cool!

Throughout the film Khan is very cool. He is often a twinkle in his eye, a small mischievous smile, as she speaks dialogs as "Touche" and "KYA Karen, baby, we are everywhere" (in response to Lara Dutta is [Images], startled look at hearing that India is the Vice President of a large German bank) . Then there's Don-ISMS (Don Says), where he speaks of a third party spouting statements like "Don ko hee pakadna mushqil nahih, namumkin hai" and "Don na apne doston spoken at puche puche, dushmon apne ki khabar hai rakhta Hamesha."

He walks swagger, wearing an orange prison jump suit of Malaysia, or the dance floor with Dutta. There's a rhythm to his body as he sways his shoulders and arms on foot Thaam Zara Dil Ko Lo song sequence.

And how can one forget the ultimate imagine hitting Khan - the camera angle of him, as he tilted back slightly, his hands open sideways. It is King Khan [Images] Signature try to remind us that he is the master of the universe. At least his fans think so.

Akhtar's new film is full of a lot of cool features such sequences set in gorgeous foreign locations - French Riviera, from the jungles of Thailand, Kuala Lumpur, Zurich, and finally to Berlin. Don 2 beautifully shot, well lit and very clean appearance, either inside or on the streets of Berlin in the studio, thanks to Akhtar Jason West is a terrific operator.

But then, like many well-intentioned and technically well-crafted Bollywood films, Don 2, fails to comply with a key. Akhtar is definitely one of the smartest filmmakers of Bollywood, but this time he will present us with the story, the plot and the script is dull, boring almost. If we do not see Khan's swagger or hearing hip upbeat background score by Shankar Ehsaan Loy [Images], Don 2 begins to lose steam.

Part of the problem, in spite of its activity segments, Don 2 is also a Bollywood film and the romance has to be part of the plot. Toward the end of the film, although the bullets flying everywhere, is an unexpected, almost forced and ridiculous romantic moment between the Khan and his co-star Priyanka Chopra [Images]. All the characters pause to explore each other's eyes.

For the action film, the central plot, setting us up robbery inside the big banks, the film is very slow walking. With that, the script explains everything to us step by step. And if anyone was paying attention to the convoluted plot, in which Don idiots are always able to sweet charm of Interpol, the last five minutes Akhtar takes a quick recap of the film, revealing a lot more details that were never shown us before. There is an old fashioned trick to make the audience say, 'Wow, we were fooled! "

Account for the difference between a thriller, Don 2 has no edge-of-the-seat moments, despite a decent car chase sequence and the scene when Don jump tall building in Berlin. One major problem is the timing of the Don 2's release. Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani her producing partner (and his wife Gauri Khan is the producer in the film) has decided to release the film during the Christmas weekend. It's too bad that just a week before that, Tom Cruise [Images] for his mega-budget action film, this season's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (MI4). It may be wrong to compare the two films, but watching the MI4, I had to remind myself to breathe. As I sat in Don 2 - MI4 wannabe, I was breathing too much, frustrated by slow-moving film.

Khan's next to a charming presence, Don 2 is supported by a large majority of packed boring performances. The first line-up has been Chopra Roma, Interpol officials in Kuala Lumpur. She is attractive in appearance, her big pouting lips, but most of the time acts as a school girl Chopra puts his hands on her forehead in excitement saying, "Damn," or through the Enid Blyton book character, gathering clues to solve the Mystery of the Missing Don!

Om Puri [Images], who was once one of the best actors in India [Images] is such a caricature here. He looks tired as Vishal Malik, Chopra boss at Interpol. Despite his very appearance of Leslie Nielsen, he sounds positively silly dialogs saying its hard throat voice - "This is Don," or simply "This is Don" (as he answers a cell phone.)

Boman Irani [Images] is trying hard to look menacing, and he is partially successful. Kunal Kapoor [Images] appears in the second half of the film as a computer hacker, but he is so sweet and good natured and have a lovely German girl pregnant. We know that something bad will happen are Sameer Kapoor. Don, a negative character, but Khan is a Bollywood star. He is a heart of gold and he can not do bad things to good people.
