Trophies 3D [three-dimensional and engraving in general] are perhaps not quite understood.

Here are some frequently asked questions are addressed as an introduction to the art.

What is 3D?

It is simply an abbreviation in three dimensions. Fundamentally, the world we live in can be broadly described as having three dimensions: things have height, width and depth.

That is why, when we use our eyes to look at the people and things around us, they seem to be solid and have a number of dimensions, as opposed to photographic images, which generally do not have height and width. In other words, most of the photographs are two-dimensional or 2D.

Why is this a problem in the media?

For more than half a century, filmmakers have attempted to generate three-dimensional film. Believe it or not, trying to do the same thing on television continued over much the same period, if not more. Some people have described it as the holy grail of the entertainment industry, but there are a number of technical reasons, psychological and social factors that have made it extremely difficult to achieve and be accepted by the general public. Efforts in all these areas continue today, but the whole area remains controversial.

What are the trophies 3D?

Space does not permit a complete analysis of the technology, but for a period of time long enough now, it was possible to use special techniques for laser engraving cutting images in an object or on a flat two-dimensional surface which appear to be three-dimensional when viewed. Many people have some experience of this moment, for example, holding a medallion lets you see what appears to be a graven image of height, depth and width. Sometimes changing the angle of the plane of the surface apparently allows you to change the angle of the picture and see, for example, one side of it.

A slight variation on this is the three-dimensional image that is burned in a solid block of something like glass or plexiglass. Note that the container can be in three dimensions does not mean that the image itself has been physically cut in the three dimensions of the block. This may mean that special technologies were used to display the 3D image when you look at it from the front and rear. One application of this technology is the creation of 3D trophies for sporting events or corporate advertising, etc.

Should I make a drawing of the image I need to burn?

This may be a starting point but designers specialized images will then take that and convert it into a design file of high quality digital which is then used as input for laser engraving machines.

Are we nearly true three-dimensional television?

It does rather depend on who you talk to! Currently, most, but not all, of the three-dimensional broadcasting need for special glasses. There was also a debate about systems that do not require glasses can be tiring for the eyes.

If referring to what is sometimes called the holographic television, as seen in some television programs sci-fi where the characters and actions seem to be directly in front of you and away from the series itself, many experts believe that it is still a little time away from considerable become something even approaching reality.

In the meantime, we need to make 3D trophies not satisfy us!
