No TV premiere for The Dirty Picture, filmmakers furious

After weeks of promotions on Sony Entertainment Television, the broadcast of The Dirty Picture (TDP), which was scheduled for Sunday from 12-4pm, and repetition of the 8-11pm, was canceled abruptly in overnight decision. This came after the Ministry for Information & Broadcasting has made known to the channel only for one day before the delivery. Ironically, the film, which won three National Awards in the categories of Best Actress, Best Costume and Best Make-up, will be felicitated at gala award ceremony in New Delhi on May 3.
Shocked with the sudden change of events, director Milan Luthria retorts, "I do not what is happening in this country, how they do it? In order to make the movie fit for television viewing, we re-released it with 59 courts, and even got U / A testimony of the censor board. "
Industry sources claim that the reason for the eleventh-hour decision was the fact that the I & B ministry has received numerous complaints against the issue of TDP during the day. Interestingly, on Friday, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court, acting in public interest litigation (pil) filed by two petitioners, decided against leaving the transmission of the film as it has already experienced a requisite editing for television release.
Apparently, Luthria spent over two months repackaging the film for television. "Despite a number of cuts, we made sure to keep the essence of the film that became popular in theaters," he says. "I do not know if I would have to be motivated or depressed to make films like TDP!
Where the hell is democracy? We have a reality show in the air, which has all kinds of content that is able to be seen by children. "Luthria claims Balaji will take the matter with the I & B ministry and find the right reason to stop the transmission.
Tanuj garg, CEO Balaji telefilms adds: "It is unfortunate that even after a valid U / A certificate from the CBFC and all the cuts in place, the delivery was stopped. We trembled given that this is among the most famous and beloved films of the last year. I'm not sure how Vidya (actor, Balan), Niharika (stylist, Khan) and Vikram (makeup artistic, Gaikwad) feel about collecting their National Awards next week! "
A distressed Ekta Kapoor, when contacted, said by text message, "Too annoying, can not talk," while the channel spokesman was available for comment. Apparently, the quick decision cost the channel is a huge loss of business after buying the rights for Rs. 8 crore.
